The prairie evenings are cooling off, the leaves along the riverbank are starting to turn, and Saskatoon’s calendar is about as full as it gets all year. September is when the city trades patio weather for festival weather, and in 2026 one of the biggest nights in Canadian music is landing right downtown.
Whether you’ve lived here for decades or you’re getting to know Saskatoon as a possible new home, here is what is worth putting on the calendar this month.

1. Saskatoon Ribfest
When: September 11 to 13, 2026
Where: Kinsmen Park
The Western Canada Rib Fest Tour sets up in Kinsmen Park for a weekend of award-winning ribs, food trucks, live entertainment, and family activities. It is right downtown next to the riverbank, admission is free, and it is an easy afternoon whether you’re bringing the kids or just an appetite.
2. Broadway Street Fair
When: Saturday, September 12, 2026, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: The Broadway District
Now in its 43rd year, the Broadway Street Fair closes the avenue to traffic and fills it with local vendors, artisans, food, and live performances. It draws tens of thousands of people annually, and if you’ve ever wondered what the Broadway and Nutana area feels like on its very best day, this is the answer.
3. Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards
When: September 16 to 19, 2026, with the awards on Saturday, September 19
Where: Venues across the city, with the CCMA Awards at SaskTel Centre
This is the headline event of Saskatoon’s year. Country Music Week brings four days of showcases, fan events, and the Country Crawl, wrapping up with the 44th annual Canadian Country Music Awards broadcast live from SaskTel Centre. It is Saskatoon’s third time hosting the awards, and downtown is going to feel it.
4. Nuit Blanche YXE
When: Saturday, September 19, 2026, 7 p.m. to midnight, with Nuit Blanche Eve on Friday, September 18 from 5 to 9 p.m.
Where: Broadway, Downtown, and River Landing, with Nuit Blanche Eve in Riversdale
For one night, buildings, sidewalks, and public spaces turn into art through light installations, projections, performances, and interactive work you can walk right up to. No gallery experience required, and it is one of the best ways to see the core neighbourhoods after dark.
5. Culture Days Saskatchewan
When: September 18 to October 4, 2026
Where: Venues across Saskatoon and the province
Culture Days is a free, multi-week run of workshops, performances, and open studios. It is worth browsing the schedule, because much of it happens in community halls, studios, and neighbourhood spaces you would otherwise never have a reason to walk into.
6. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
When: Wednesday, September 30, 2026
Where: Wanuskewin Heritage Park and locations across Saskatoon
The month closes with a day for reflection. Wanuskewin, just north of the city, holds special programming, and there are gatherings, walks, and ceremonies throughout Saskatoon. It is a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the history of the land this city is built on.
What a Busy September Can Tell You About a Neighbourhood
If you are considering a move to Saskatoon, or even just a move across the city, a month like this one is useful reconnaissance. A few things worth paying attention to:
- Getting around: Festival weekends are an honest test of parking, transit, and bike routes from any given area.
- Walkability to the core: Broadway, Nutana, Riversdale, and downtown put most of this month’s calendar within walking distance.
- Riverbank access: The Meewasin trail system is at its best in September, so check how easily you can reach it from a street you are considering.
- The school-year rhythm: Visit on a weekday morning to see how a neighbourhood actually behaves now that school is back in.
September has a way of reminding you that living here is about more than the house itself. It is the festival a few blocks away, the walk along the river after supper, and the neighbours you run into at the street fair.
